Home is where the heart is: Seniors’ desire to age at home

In an aging world, seniors’ loss of independence and quality of life is a preventable tragedy. Our planet has more people over the age of 60 than under 5, posing an important test of our social safety nets – and our values.

As a Fellow at UBC’s Global Reporting Program, I, along with post-graduate students from around the world connected with seniors, experts and researchers to take an in-depth look at those most affected.

Home is where the heart is: Seniors’ desire to age at home is part of the Growing Older series published by The Globe and Mail in partnership with the Global Reporting Program.

B.C. groups work to reduce mental health stigma in the South Asian community

In this article, we conducted research and investigation into the opioid crisis affecting diaspora groups in Canada. Our discussions with grassroots organizations in British Columbia's lower mainland shed light on their utilization of language and culturally-specific strategies to effectively tackle and narrow gaps in mental health and addiction support.

Mission for Fitness - A fitness guide to the Mission neighbourhood in Kelowna B.C.

As a part of an upper-level creative writing course, I participated in the Dig your Neighbourhood (DYN) Project – a community-based engagement, research and writing initiative of the Eco-Art Incubator – surrounding the Mission neighbourhood in Kelowna BC. I composed a health and fitness guide book called ‘Mission for Fitness’. This guide was then edited, produced and published through Lake Publishing Society, and distributed among the Mission residents.
